I joined Generate to be on the cutting edge of science and technology. I wanted to work for a company whose mission was to remove human bias in protein design and bring machine learning into the fold of biological discovery. The people I met had great personalities and had unbounded enthusiasm and curiosity for the work.

Proteins are one of the coolest things I’ve ever learned about. In an intro biochemistry class in college, I remember hearing that sickle-cell anemia was caused by a single mutation to an exposed amino acid that altered the entire shape of the red blood cell—and I was hooked. I joined Generate because I loved the idea of getting to work on protein science in a practical and immediately therapeutically relevant manner.

I have spent my scientific career fascinated by the structure-function relationships of proteins and other biomolecules. The ability to not only better understand this but to harness that understanding to create better medicines has always been a dream of mine. Joining Generate was a dream come true, in a way.
